MRD Environmental is Mechanical Research & Design, Inc.’s product brand for environmental hazards mitigation including Pressure Barrier Isolation and Testing Products. Many of our products are used for the Sealing and Containment of sensitive or hazardous solids and fluids as well as for the verification of pressure/leak integrity in conveyance systems of potable water, chemicals, or waste. To aid our customers, we design and manufacture Isolation and Pressure Barriers such as Bulkheads, Pipe Plugs, Annular Sealing Tools, Joint Testers, Gates, Hatches, By-passes, and Doors, which integrate the highest quality materials and our own industry-proven line of seals: SEALFAST® Elastomers. We are the Isolation and Pressure test product experts, and we offer a wide variety of Work Assist, Leak Testing, and Connectors solutions that are commonly used in environmental processes.

Along with our other isolation barrier products, our Pipe Plugs are amongst our most popular environmental service tools. These products generally find use in in-piping systems, at inlet and outlet points of piping systems (such as drains and intakes), and serve as viable temporary or permanent isolation solutions, as well as serving equally well to verify these systems for leaks under pressure. Our SEALFAST® Mechanical and Inflatable Pipe Plugs are used all over the world in Environmental Applications, including at fish hatcheries, chemical process refining and storage plants, in conventional power and nuclear plants for controlling process water contamination, offshore oil & gas, in refineries, amongst many other applications.

Another type of Isolation and general leak/pressure testing product that is popular for Environmental applications are our Annular Sealing Tools. These products are used widely in double containment pipe applications, wall and foundation piping penetrations, and general leak integrity in dual pipe systems. Our Annular Sealing Tools are flexible and can be used in unlevel, eccentric, or even split seal versions to cover the wide range of applications that exist in new or existing infrastructure remediation. SEALFAST® Mechanical and Inflatable Annular Sealing Tools can provide short term and long-term sealing solutions, can be used as forms for grout pouring/consolidation in annular spaces, and can be fabricated in nearly any shape from any material.

SEALFAST® Inflatable and Mechanical Joint Testers are another one of our popular environmental service products. They are widely used in applications such as well and casing integrity verifications, transport pipeline weld and joint pressure and leak testing, and can be used for bypassing flow-ways for pipes with known leaks – local isolation. The working principal of this tool is to utilize two pressure barriers, seals, to isolate a region of pipe or tunnel that can be pressurized for zone leak checks, or, potentially used as a redundant sealing device, allowing pressure monitoring between seals (i.e.- double block and bleed applications).
